Jussi Kaakinen (b. 1978) is an illustrator and graphic designer living in Helsinki. He received a Master’s degree from the University of Industrial Arts Helsinki in 2006, and has worked as a freelancer since then. Jussi’s varied style is often influenced by early 20th century poster design, European Ligne claire comics and the history of computer games. He often uses traditional ink drawing or acrylic painting as a basis for his illustrations, but he has also been making pixel art since before it became retro. Jussi is equally inspired by nature and science fiction, and his style palette can handle both light and heavy subject matter. He loves to work with a wide variety of clients both big and small. Always aiming for the most effective visual communication, he sometimes also does infographics, mapmaking and lettering. Jussi is also known as a book cover designer and a children’s book illustrator specialising in non-fiction. His works have won several awards.
