SOFIA PUSA AND THE ÅLAND POST ON BEHALF OF PEACE
Our splendid illustrator, Sofia Pusa, designed a beautiful postage stamp for Åland Post. The stamp participated in the PostEurop 2023 competition, with the theme being PEACE – the highest value of humanity.
Sofia designed a total of one stamp, a first-day cover, a postmark, and the background for the stamp sheet. Although the stamp didn’t win the PostEurop 2023 competition, it received a lot of recognition. And we’re not surprised at all – and for good reason!
The work depicts the sunrise over the demilitarized archipelago of Åland, with its red granite cliffs. The sun and its reflection together form a symbol of peace. The sunrise is a symbolic representation of hope, growth, and new beginnings.
