Colorful communication from the city of Helsinki: Riku Ounaslehto’s illustrations for the Education Division
Napa’s pattern and vector illustration master Riku Ounaslehto has been working on a series of fun & fabulous illustrations for Helsinki’s Education Division. The illustrations have now been published in a variety of channels; both print and in digital platforms.
Riku’s warm and welcoming illustrations are for example a part of a invitation letter, that is sent for all first graders and kindergarten pupils at the beginning of the school year.
In his illustrations Riku has minded the visual identity of Helsinki, diversity and target groups. Besides the brochures, Riku’s illustrations are featured in the Education Devision’s digital group platform for the kindergartens and the Culture path poster. The Culture path presents the cultural education that takes place in every primary school in Helsinki region.
Riku’s illustrations were showcased in Helsinki Design Week’s Weekly Pics -section. How amazing!! The article is about the renewed visual identity of the city of Helsinki. Tiina Latva describes Riku’s illustration products in Anni Korkman’s article in the following way:
“Helsinki’s brand identity is designed to adapt to the needs of different industries. How nice are those invitation letters for first graders at the beginning of the school year? And how happy does the printed version of teaching and early childhood education plans look? The hierarchy and readability of the information has been carefully considered, yet they do not look like dry, official communication documents.”
